The 10 Best Times When Du'a Is Most Likely to Be Accepted

1. LAST THIRD OF THE NIGHT

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا، حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْآخِرُ، فَيَقُولُ: مَنْ يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ؟ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ؟ مَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ؟

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said:

In the last third of every night our Rabb (Allah (SWT) descends to the lowermost heaven and says; “Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that may I grant him? Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?

Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (1145) and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (758).

2. IN YOUR SUJOOD

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

«أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ، فَأَكْثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ»

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said:

The nearest a slave can be to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so invoke (supplicate) Allah (SWT) much in it.

[Sahih Muslim , 482 ]

3. BETWEEN THE ADHAN AND IQAMAH

عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

«الدُّعَاءُ لَا يُرَدُّ بَيْنَ الْأَذَانِ وَالْإِقَامَةِ»

It was narrated that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Du’a is not rejected between the Adhan and Iqamah.

This wording is also narrated with the addition:

«فَادْعُوا»

"So make duʿāʾ (supplication)."

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 212; Abu Dawood, 437; Ahmad, 12174)– Authentic (Ṣaḥīḥ).

4. AT THE END OF OBLIGATORY PRAYER

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ

قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُّ الدُّعَاءِ أَسْمَعُ؟ قَالَ

«جَوْفَ اللَّيْلِ الْآخِرِ، وَدُبُرَ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْمَكْتُوبَاتِ»

Narrated Abu Omamah (RA): that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked, O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is heard (by Allah (SWT), he said the end of the night and at the end of the obligatory Salat (prayer)

5. WHEN IT'S RAINING

عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

«اثْنَتَانِ لَا تُرَدَّانِ: الدُّعَاءُ عِنْدَ النِّدَاءِ، وَتَحْتَ الْمَطَرِ»

Narrated Sahel Ibn Sa’ad (RA), that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

Two will not be rejected, Supplication when the Adhan (call of prayer) is being called, and at the time of the rain.

6. WHILE TRAVELLING

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

ثَلَاثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٌ لَا شَكَّ فِيهِنَّ: دَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْمُسَافِرِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

"Three supplications are answered without doubt: the supplication of the parent, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the oppressed."

(Note:  “the supplication of the one who is fasting” — is found in some narrations with variations. The well-known authentic wording is the one above mentioning the parent, traveler, and oppressed person.)

7. WHEN BREAKING FAST

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

ثَلَاثَةٌ لَا تُرَدُّ دَعْوَتُهُمْ: الْإِمَامُ الْعَادِلُ، وَالصَّائِمُ حَتَّى يُفْطِرَ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

"There are three whose supplications are not rejected: the just ruler, the fasting person until he breaks his fast, and the supplication of the oppressed."

8. AFTER SENDING BLESSINGS ON THE PROPHET (SAW)

عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلًا يَدْعُو فِي صَلَاتِهِ لَمْ يُمَجِّدِ اللهَ تَعَالَى، وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

«عَجِلَ هَذَا» ثُمَّ دَعَاهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَوْ لِغَيْرِهِ: «إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِتَحْمِيدِ اللهِ وَالثَّنَاءِ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ لِيُصَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، ثُمَّ لِيَدْعُ بَعْدُ بِمَا شَاءَ

Narrated Faddalah Ibn Ubayd (RA), that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

When anyone of you makes du’a, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (SAW), then let him pray for whatever he wants

9. ON THE DAY OF ARAFAH

عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

خَيْرُ الدُّعَاءِ دُعَاءُ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ، وَخَيْرُ مَا قُلْتُ أَنَا وَالنَّبِيُّونَ مِنْ قَبْلِي: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

"The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of ʿArafah, and the best that I and the Prophets before me have said is: There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things."

10. WHEN VISITNG THE SICK

عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَعُودُ مُسْلِمًا غُدْوَةً، إِلَّا صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ حَتَّى يُمْسِيَ، وَإِنْ عَادَهُ عَشِيَّةً، إِلَّا صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ، وَكَانَ لَهُ خَرِيفٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

Ali (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said:

When a Muslim visits his sick Muslim brother in the morning; seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness till the evening. And when he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels make dua for his forgiveness till the morning, and he will be granted a garden for it in Jannah.

AHMADTRINI

*“ REGRET IS REPENTANCE ”

 

*Regret is a Main Condition, or the Greatest Aspect, of Repentance*

Hence the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: 

الندم توبة ، وهو حديث حسن من حديث ابن مسعود، أخرجه ابن ماجه، وصححه الحاكم، وأخرجه ابن حبان من حديث أنس وصححه

“Regret is Repentance, and it is a ḥasan (good) hadith narrated from Ibn Masʿūd. Ibn Mājah transmitted it, and al-Ḥākim declared it authentic. Ibn Ḥibbān also transmitted it from Anas and declared it authentic.”

One of the scholars even said:

يكفي في التوبة تحقق الندم على وقوعه منه، فإنه يستلزم الإقلاع عنه والعزم على عدم العود، فهما ناشئان عن الندم لا أصلان معه

*Regret is sufficient to achieve repentance*, for it implies giving up the sin and resolving not to go back to it, which stem from regret and do not occur independently of it

*“Regret is repentance”: * because this will lead to the other essential components of repentance – namely *giving up the sin and resolving not to go back to it, and restoring people’s rights wherever possible*.… What is meant is remorse for having committed the sin because it is a sin, and for no other reason.

NO ACTIONS GOES UNREWARDED : An Islamic Reminder

 

The Value of Every Righteous Action

Never for one moment did that man who swept aside the thorns from the people’s path ever imagine that that moment would mark the happiest day of his life. But the Prophet PBUH said it was, as all of his sins were forgiven.  

(Muslim, Hadith no. 127).

Never for one moment did that prostitute who provided a sip of water for the thirsty dog ever imagine that that moment would mark the happiest day of her life. But the Prophet PBUH said it was, as every sin of hers was consequently erased.

(Bukhari and Muslim, in Hadith no. 126)

Never did that companion who was promised Paradise ever imagine that it was simply due to his ill-free heart that this promise was given to him. But the Prophet PBUH said that it was.

Never for one moment did Talha imagine that it would be that moment where he’d lowered himself for the Prophet PBUH to step on his back in his aid which would mark the happiest day of his life. But it was, because the Prophet PBUH immediately said, ‘Paradise is now for Talha’  

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3747).

What am I getting at?

Many, many times in the life of a Muslim, a place in Paradise is finally reserved for him due to the smallest of all actions. This is when Allah sees within a person true sincerity and a genuine craving for the Hereafter, thus He allows an opportunity to present itself to him, one which he pounces at with remarkable wholeheartedness and sincerity. Little had he noticed however that that brief moment had in fact marked the turning point in his life when his sins were erased and Paradise was written for him!

Dearest Muslim, I ask:

Have you found your moment?

Or ... are you still searching for it?

That ‘moment’ could be a tear which you shed in the remembrance of Allah when you’re alone. It could be a desire which you craved but denied for Allah’s sake. It could be through joy which you bring to another Muslim, or a statement of truth which you bravely utter, or the suppressing of anger, or the covering of another person’s fault, or the feeding of a hungry person.

It’s not always about the obvious good deeds!

No one knows where his ‘moment’ lies, that moment which will bring about eternal happiness 

...May Allah SWT make find where our 'moment lies' and reward us with Jannatul Firdausi.. Aameen.
