INDIVIDUALS / GROUPS / PEOPLE CURSED IN THE QURAN

 

 

 

In the Quran, Allah mentions individuals and groups who were cursed due to their disbelief, oppression, or rejection of divine guidance. 

 

 

1. **The Curse on Satan (Iblis)**

 

 

لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ ۘ وَقَالَ لَأَتَّخِذَنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا

 

 

**Surah An-Nisa (4:118)**

 

 

*"Allah cursed him (Satan), and he (Satan) said: 'I will take an appointed portion of Your servants.'"*

 2. **The Curse on the Disbelievers Among the Children of Israel**

 

 

لُعِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَىٰ لِسَانِ دَاوُودَ وَعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوا وَّكَانُوا يَعْتَدُونَ

 

 

**Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:78)**

 

 

*"Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed."*

3. **The Curse on the People of Lut (Lot) for Their Evil Deeds**

 

 

وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ  إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ • وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا أَخْرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ • فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ • وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

 

 

**Surah Al-A'raf (7:80-84)**

 

 

*"And [We sent] Lot when he said to his people, 'Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.' But the answer of his people was only that they said, 'Expel them from your city! Indeed, they are people who keep themselves pure.' So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers]. And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals."*

 4. **The Curse on the Hypocrites (Munafiqun)**

 

 

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ وَٱلْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ هِىَ حَسْبُهُمْ ۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ مُّقِيمٌۭ ٦٨

 

 

**At-Tawbah (9:68)**

 

 

The hypocrites, both men and women, are all alike: they encourage what is evil, forbid what is good, and withhold ˹what is in˺ their hands. They neglected Allah, so He neglected them. Surely the hypocrites are the rebellious.

5. **The Curse on Pharaoh and His People**

 

 

فَلَمَّا آسَفُونَا انتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ • فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ سَلَفًا وَمَثَلًا لِّلْآخِرِينَ

 

 

**Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:55-56)**

 

 

*"So when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all. And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples."*

 6. **The Curse on Those Who Hide the Truth**

 

 

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَا أَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَىٰ مِن بَعْدِ مَا بَيَّنَّاهُ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْكِتَابِ ۙ أُولَٰئِكَ يَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَلْعَنُهُمُ اللَّاعِنُونَ

 

 

**Surah Al-Baqarah (2:159)**

 

 

*"Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We have made it clear for the people in the Scripture—those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse."*

 7. **The Curse on Those Who Hide the Truth**

 

 

فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا۟ نَدْعُ أَبْنَآءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنفُسَنَا وَأَنفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ ٦١

 

 

Now, whoever disputes with you ˹O Prophet˺ concerning Jesus after full knowledge has come to you, say, “Come! Let us gather our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves—then let us sincerely invoke Allah’s curse upon the liars.”

 

**Surah Ali 'Imran (3:69)

 

 

 **Summary of Cursed Groups in the Quran:**

 

 

1. **Shaytan (Satan)** – For arrogance and disobedience.

 

 

2. **Disbelievers among Bani Israel** – For breaking covenants and transgression.

 

 

3. **People of Lut** – For homosexuality and corruption.

 

 

4. **Hypocrites (Munafiqun)** – For deceit and opposing truth.

 

 

5. **Pharaoh and his followers** – For tyranny and rejecting Musa (Moses).

 

 

6. **Those who hide religious truth** – For concealing guidance after it’s revealed.

 

 

7. ** The Liars **

 

 

These verses serve as warnings against disbelief, oppression, and moral corruption.
