THE QURAN INVITES DENIERS TO A CHALLENGE

The Divine Promise of Preservation

This is the fundamental verse guaranteeing the Quran's freedom from any change or corruption.

Surah Al-Hijr (15:9)

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

"Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian."

Protected from Falsehood

A powerful description of how the Quran is safeguarded from any form of invalidation or corruption, from any direction.

Surah Fussilat (41:42)

لَّا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ ۖ تَنزِيلٌ مِّنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ

"Falsehood cannot approach it from before it or from behind it; [it is] a revelation from a [Lord who is] Wise and Praiseworthy."

The Challenge to Produce Its Like

The eternal challenge proving its miraculous and inimitable nature.

Surah Al-Isra (17:88)

قُل لَّئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَىٰ أَن يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا

"Say, 'If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Qur'an, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.'"

A Book Free of Doubt

The opening of the second chapter, establishing the Quran as the ultimate criterion of truth.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:2)

ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah."

No Internal Contradictions

An intellectual proof of its divine origin based on its perfect internal harmony.

Surah An-Nisa (4:82)

أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ۚ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ اللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا فِيهِ اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا

"Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction."

It is a Conclusive Word

A reminder of the weight and certainty of its message.

Surah At-Tariq (86:13-14)

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ . وَمَا هُوَ بِالْهَزْلِ

"Indeed, the Quran is a conclusive word, And it is certainly not a jest."

The Quran as Clear Proof

Allah describes the revelation as a manifest proof and illuminating light.

Surah An-Nisa (4:174)

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ بُرْهَانٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُورًا مُبِينًا

"O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light."

The Challenge to Produce Its Like

The Quran's miraculous nature is emphasized through repeated challenges to produce anything similar to it, demonstrating its divine origin.

Surah Hud (11:13)

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِ مُفْتَرَيَاتٍ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

"Or do they say, 'He invented it'? Say, 'Then bring ten surahs like it that have been invented and call upon whoever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful.'"

Surah Yunus (10:38)

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِّثْلِهِ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

"Or do they say, 'He invented it'? Say, 'Then bring forth a surah like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful.'"

Surah At-Tur (52:33-34)

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ . فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِ إِن كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ

"Or do they say, 'He has made it up'? Rather, they do not believe. Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful."

The Quran as Absolute Truth and Certainty

These verses affirm that the Quran is the ultimate truth, leaving no room for doubt.

Surah Al-Haqqah (69:51)

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِينِ

"And indeed, it is the truth of assured certainty."

Surah Al-Waqi'ah (56:95)

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ

"Indeed, this is the true certainty."

Surah As-Sajdah (32:2-3)

تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ . أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۚ بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّا أَتَاهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

"[This is] the revelation of the Book about which there is no doubt from the Lord of the worlds. Or do they say, 'He invented it'? Rather, it is the truth from your Lord to warn a people to whom no warner has come before you that they might be guided."

Surah Yunus (10:37)

وَمَا كَانَ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنُ أَن يُفْتَرَىٰ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلَٰكِن تَصْدِيقَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَتَفْصِيلَ الْكِتَابِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

"It is not [possible] for this Qur'an to be produced by other than Allah, but [it is] a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds."

It is a Clear Proof and Guidance

The Quran describes itself as a manifest light and a clear sign from Allah.

Surah An-Nisa (4:174)

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ بُرْهَانٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ نُورًا مُبِينًا

"O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light."

Surah Ar-Ra'd (13:1)

المر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ ۗ وَالَّذِي أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ الْحَقُّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

"Alif, Lam, Meem, Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe."

Its Miracles Beyond Eloquence

The Quran contains signs for those who reflect, from the creation of the universe to the detailed accounts of previous nations.

Surah Fussilat (41:53)

سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ ۗ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

"We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?"

Surah Al-Isra (17:9)

إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا

"Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward."

Rejecting Claims of Human Authorship

The Quran refutes the idea that it could be the work of any created being.

Surah Al-Furqan (25:4-6)

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا إِفْكٌ افْتَرَاهُ وَأَعَانَهُ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ آخَرُونَ ۖ فَقَدْ جَاءُوا ظُلْمًا وَزُورًا . وَقَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ اكْتَتَبَهَا فَهِيَ تُمْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا . قُلْ أَنزَلَهُ الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ السِّرَّ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا

"And those who disbelieve say, 'This is not but a lie he invented, and another people assisted him in it.' But they have committed an injustice and a falsehood. And they say, 'Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon.' Say, [O Muhammad], 'It has been revealed by He who knows [every] secret within the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving and Merciful.'"

Surah An-Najm (53:3-4)

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ . إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ

"Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed."

"Who is more truthful than Allah in statement?"

Surah An-Nisa (4:87)

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۗ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَدِيثًا

"Allah - there is no deity except Him. He will surely assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And who is more truthful than Allah in statement?"

Surah An-Nisa (4:122)

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللَّهِ قِيلًا

"But the ones who believe and do righteous deeds - We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. [It is] the promise of Allah, [which is] truth. And who is more truthful than Allah in speech?"

"With truth We sent it down, and with truth it descended"

Surah Al-Isra (17:105)

وَبِالْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَاهُ وَبِالْحَقِّ نَزَلَ ۗ وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا

"And with the truth We have sent it down, and with the truth it has descended. And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner."

Surah Yunus (10:53)

وَيَسْتَنبِئُونَكَ أَحَقٌّ هُوَ ۖ قُلْ إِي وَرَبِّي إِنَّهُ لَحَقٌّ ۖ وَمَا أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ

"And they ask you to inform them, 'Is it true?' Say, 'Yes, by my Lord. Indeed, it is truth; and you will not cause failure [to Allah].'"

Ibn Kathir broadens the meaning of mahjūrā, explaining that abandoning the Qur'an

Surah Al-Furqan, Ayah 30:

وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ مَهْجُورًۭا

"And the Messenger will say, 'O my Lord! Indeed, my people have taken this Qur'an as something abandoned (mahjūr).'"

Ibn Kathir broadens the meaning of mahjūrā, explaining that abandoning the Qur'an includes:

Not listening to it.

Not believing in it or accepting it as true.

Not learning it or memorizing it.

Not reflecting on and understanding its meanings.

Not acting upon its commands or avoiding what it forbids.

Turning away from it in favor of poetry, songs, entertainment, idle speech, or other sources of guidance instead of the Qur'an.

Surah Luqman (31:6)

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ . وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِي أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

"And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly as if he had not heard them, as if in his ears was deafness. So give him tidings of a painful punishment."

(Note: This contrasts Allah's truthful speech with "amusement of speech" - false and vain talk.)

The Quran is the Truth from Your Lord

Surah Al-Kahf (18:29)

وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِن وَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ

"And say, 'The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve.'"

Surah Al-Haqqah (69:44-47)

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ . لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ . ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ . فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ

"And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings, We would have seized him by the right hand; Then We would have cut from him the aorta. And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him."

Surah Al-An'am (6:115)

وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ صِدْقًا وَعَدْلًا ۚ لَّا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ ۚ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

"And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the All
