الديوان

 

غَذوَتُكَ مولوداً وَعُلتُكَ يافِعاً

 

 

 

غَذوَتُكَ مولوداً وَعُلتُكَ يافِعاً
تُعَلُّ بِما أُحنيَ عَلَيكَ وَتَنهلُ

 

إِذا لَيلَةٌ نابَتكَ بِالشَكو لَم
أَبِت لِشَكواكَ إِلّا ساهِراً أَتَمَلمَلُ

 

كَأَني أَنا المَطروقُ دونَكَ بِالَذي
طُرِقَت بِهِ دوني فَعَينايَ تَهمُلُ

 

تَخافُ الرَدى نَفسي عَلَيكَ وَإِنَني
لَأَعلَمُ أَنَ المَوتَ حَتمٌ مُؤَجَّلُ

 

فَلَمّا بَلَغَت السِّنَ وَالغايَةَ الَّتي

إِليها مَدى ما كُنتُ فيكَ أُؤَمِلُ

 

جَعَلتَ جَزائي غِلظَةً وَفَظاظَةً
كَأَنَكَ أَنتَ المُنعِمُ المُتَفَضِلُ

 

فَلَيتَكَ إِذ لَم تَرعَ حَقَّ أُبوَتي
فَعَلتَ كَما الجارُ المُجاورُ يَفعَلُ

في هذا الكتاب يذكر السخاوي البيت المشهور من شعر أبي العتاهية

 

غذوتك مولوداً وعلتك يافعاً

 

ويوضّح السخاوي أن هذا البيت

ليس حديثًا نبويًا عن النبي ﷺ

ينسب إلى الشعر، وهو من شعر أبي العتاهية

وقد أورده السخاوي لتصحيح انتشار هذه الكلمات بين الناس، حيث كان كثيرون ينسبونها خطأً إلى الحديث الشريف لما تحمله من معنى أخلاقي عن بر الوالدين

 

  AHMADTRINI

 

I cared for you as a newborn,
and raised you as a young boy.

 

You were nourished by what I provided
and drank deeply from my care.

 

If ever a night brought you illness or complaint,
I did not sleep because of your pain;
I stayed awake, restless and uneasy.

 

It was as though I were the one afflicted, not you—
struck by what struck you—
and my eyes would overflow with tears.

 

My soul feared death for your sake,
even though I knew
that death is inevitable and decreed.

 

But when you reached the age and stage
for which I had always hoped and prayed,
you repaid me with harshness and roughness,
as though you were the benefactor and I the one indebted.

 

If only, when you failed to honor my fatherhood,
you had at least treated me
as a decent neighbor would treat his neighbor.

What al-Sakhāwī Says

In Al-Maqāṣid al-Ḥasanah, al-Sakhāwī mentions the well-known opening line:

 

غذوتك مولوداً وعلتك يافعاً

 

He clarifies that:

It is not a Prophetic ḥadīth.

It is poetry attributed to Abu al-ʿAtāhiyah.
