FOODS FROM THE SUNNAH

 

 

Sunnah foods

 

In Islam, certain foods are mentioned in the **Quran** and **Sunnah** for their blessings and health benefits. Here are some **Sunnah foods** with their references:

 

 

### 1. **Dates (التمر - Tamr)**

 

- **Quran:**

 

*"And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates."* (Quran 19:25) – Allah provided dates to Maryam (AS) during childbirth.

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"A house without dates has no food."* (Muslim)

 

He also said: *"Break your fast with dates, for it is blessed."* (Bukhari & Muslim)

 

 

### 2. **Olives (الزيتون - Zaytoon)**

 

- **Quran:**

 

*"By the fig and the olive, and by Mount Sinai."*

 

(Quran 95:1-2)

 

*"And [We produce] oil from the olive tree which is a cure."* (Quran 16:11)

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"Eat olive oil and apply it, for it is from a blessed tree."* (Tirmidhi)

 

 

### 3. **Honey (العسل - 'Asal)**

 

- **Quran:**

 

*"There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people."*

 

(Quran 16:69)

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"Honey is a remedy for every illness, and the Quran is a remedy for all ailments of the mind."* (Ibn Majah)

 

 

### 4. **Milk (اللبن - Laban)**

 

- **Quran:**

 

*"And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies—between digested food and blood—pure milk, palatable to drinkers."* (Quran 16:66)

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"Whoever is given milk should say: 'O Allah, bless it for us and give us more of it, for no food or drink satisfies like milk.'"*

 

(Tirmidhi)

 

 

### 5. **Black Seed (الحبة السوداء - Habba Sawda)**

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"This black seed is a cure for every disease except death."* (Bukhari & Muslim)

 

 

### 6. **Barley (الشعير - Sha'ir)**

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to eat barley bread and said: *"Barley is good for fever."* (Ibn Majah)

 

Aisha (RA) said: *"The Prophet (ﷺ) never ate his fill of barley bread for two consecutive days until he passed away."* (Bukhari)

 

 

### 7. **Pumpkin (القرع - Yaqteen)**

 

- **Hadith:**

 

Anas (RA) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) loved pumpkin and would eat it when available. (Tirmidhi)

 

 

### 8. **Vinegar (الخل - Khall)**

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"What a good condiment vinegar is."* (Muslim)

 

 

### 9. **Water (الماء - Ma’)**

 

- **Hadith:**

 

The Prophet (ﷺ) drank water in **three breaths**, and said: *"It is more satisfying and healthier."*

 

(Muslim)

 

 

### 10. **Figs (التين - Teen)**

 

- **Quran:**

 

*"By the fig and the olive..."* (Quran 95:1)

 

Some scholars mention figs as a blessed fruit due to its Quranic mention.

 

 

### **Conclusion**

 

These foods are not only nutritious but also carry spiritual blessings. Consuming them with the intention of following the **Sunnah** brings both physical and spiritual benefits.
