TYPES OF INTERSESSION

**Types of Intercession in the Quran and Hadith**

In Islamic terminology, **"intersession" (الشفاعة - Ash-Shafā'ah)** refers to the act of mediating or interceding on behalf of someone, particularly on the Day of Judgment. It is a significant concept in the Quran and Hadith, with different types mentioned. Below are the types of intercession along with relevant **Arabic verses and Hadiths**:

---

#### **1. Intercession by Permission of Allah

This is the highest form of intercession, where only those granted permission by Allah can intercede.

*"Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?"*

*"And they cannot intercede except for one with whom He is pleased."*

*"The Prophets, the angels, and the believers will intercede, and then the Almighty will say: 'Now remains My Intercession.'"*

---

#### **2. Intercession of the Prophet Muhammad

The Prophet (ﷺ) will have multiple forms of intercession, including the **Greatest Intercession (الشفاعة العظمى)** for all of humanity on Judgment Day.

*"Every Prophet is granted a (special) supplication that is answered. Every Prophet hastened to invoke it, but I have reserved mine for interceding for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection."*

*"My intercession is for the people who committed major sins in my Ummah."*

---

#### **3. Intercession of Angels, Prophets, and Righteous Believers

Others besides the Prophet (ﷺ) may intercede with Allah’s permission.

*"And those whom they invoke besides Him have no power of intercession, except those who bear witness to the truth knowingly."*

*"People will be brought out of the Fire by intercession as long as they have a grain of faith in their hearts."*

---

#### **4. Intercession for the People of Paradise to Enter It

The Prophet (ﷺ) and others will intercede for believers to enter Paradise sooner.

*"I will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection and ask for it to be opened. The keeper will say: 'Who are you?' I will say: 'Muhammad.' He will say: 'I was commanded not to open for anyone before you.'"*

---

#### **5. Intercession for the Reduction of Punishment

Some believers may receive intercession to lessen their punishment.

*"The most prosperous person in this world will be brought from the people of Hell, dipped into Hellfire, and then asked: 'O son of Adam, did you ever see any good?'"*

*(This implies that even such a person may eventually receive mercy through intercession.)*

---

### **Conclusion**

Intercession in Islam is **only by Allah’s permission** and is granted to His chosen servants (Prophets, angels, martyrs, and righteous believers). The Quran and Hadith emphasize that **false gods have no power of intercession**, and true intercession belongs solely to Allah’s will.
