### ** 1.  General Magic (Sihr - سحر) **

 

 

**Quran 2:102: **

 

وَاتَّبَعُوا مَا تَتْلُو الشَّيَاطِينُ عَلَىٰ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ ۖ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا يُعَلِّمُونَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ

 

*"They followed what the devils recited during Solomon’s reign. Solomon did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic..."*

 

 

**Hadith (Sahih Bukhari 5767): **

 

اجْتَنِبُوا السَّبْعَ الْمُوبِقَاتِ... وَالشِّرْكَ بِاللَّهِ، وَالسِّحْرَ

 

*"Avoid the seven destructive sins: ... associating partners with Allah, and magic."*

### ** 2.  Knot-Binding Magic (النفث في العقد) **

 

 

**Quran 113:4: **

 

وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ

 

*"And from the evil of the women who blow on knots."*

 

 

**Hadith (Sahih Bukhari 5765): **

 

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُحِرَ، حَتَّى كَانَ يُخَيَّلُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ فَعَلَ الشَّيْءَ وَمَا فَعَلَهُ

 

*"The Messenger of Allah was bewitched, so he imagined he did something when he had not."*

### ** 3.  Separation Magic (تفريق بين المرء وزوجه) **

 

 

**Quran 2:102: **

 

وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلَا يَنفَعُهُمْ ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُوا لَمَنِ اشْتَرَاهُ مَا لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ

 

 

*"They learn what harms them and does not benefit them. They knew whoever purchased it [magic] would have no share in the Hereafter."*

 

 

**Tafsir Ibn Kathir: **

 

يُفَرِّقُونَ بِهِ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَزَوْجِهِ

 

*"They cause separation between a man and his wife."*

### ** 4.  Illusionary Magic (سحر التخييل) **

 

 

**Quran 7:116: **

 

فَلَمَّا أَلْقَوْا سَحَرُوا أَعْيُنَ النَّاسِ وَاسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ

 

*"When they threw [their ropes], they bewitched the eyes of the people and terrified them."*

 

 

**Hadith (Sahih Muslim 2189): **

 

إِنَّمَا السِّحْرُ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ

 

*"Magic is from the work of Satan."*

**Quran 2:102: **

 

وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ

 

*"The two angels [Harut and Marut] did not teach anyone without saying, ‘We are a test, so do not disbelieve.’"*

 

 

**Hadith (Sunan Abu Dawud 3907): **

 

مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ شَيْئًا مِنَ السِّحْرِ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ

 

*"Whoever learns magic has committed disbelief."*

**Hadith (Sahih Bukhari 5740): **

 

العَيْنُ حَقٌّ

 

*"The evil eye is real."*

 

 

**Quran 68:51: **

 

وَإِن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ

 

 

*"The disbelievers almost strike you down with their evil glances."*
