 **1. Surah Ash-Shams (91:1-6) - Oaths by Celestial Bodies**

 

 

**By the Sun, Moon, Day, Night, Heaven, and Earth**

 

 

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا ﴿١﴾ وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا ﴿٢﴾ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا ﴿٣﴾ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا ﴿٤﴾ وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا ﴿٥﴾ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا ﴿٦

 

 

*"By the sun and its brightness, (1) And by the moon when it follows it, (2) And by the day when it displays it, (3) And by the night when it covers it, (4) And by the heaven and He who constructed it, (5) And by the earth and He who spread it."*

 **2. Surah An-Najm (53:1) - Oath by the Star **

 

 

**By the Star**

 

وَٱلنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ١

 

 

*"By the star when it descends."*

**3. Surah At-Takwir (81:15-16) - Oaths by Retreating Stars **

 

 

**By the Receding Stars**

 

 

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ ﴿١٥﴾ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ ﴿

 

 

*"So I swear by the retreating stars, (15) Those that run [their courses] and disappear."*

**4. Surah Al-Fajr (89:1-4) - Oaths by Dawn, Nights, and Time **

 

 

**By the Dawn, Ten Nights, and Even/Odd**

 

 

وَٱلْفَجْرِ ﴿١﴾ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ ﴿٢﴾ وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ ﴿٣﴾ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

٤

 

 

*"By the dawn, (1) And by the ten nights, (2) And by the even and the odd, (3) And by the night when it departs."*

 **5. Surah Al-Layl (92:1-3) - Oaths by Night, Day, and Creation **

 

 

 

**By the Night, Day, and Gender Creation**

 

 

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ ﴿١﴾ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ ﴿٢﴾ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ

 

 

*"By the night when it covers, (1) And by the day when it brightens, (2) And by He who created the male and female."*

 **6. Surah At-Tin (95:1-3) - Oaths by Fig, Olive, and Sacred Places **

 

 

**By the Fig, Olive, and Mount Sinai**

 

 

وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ ﴿١﴾ وَطُورِ سِينِينَ ﴿٢﴾ وَهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْأَمِينِ 

 

 

 

*"By the fig and the olive, (1) And by Mount Sinai,

 

 

(2) And by this secure city [Makkah]."*

**7. Surah Al-Balad (90:1-4) - Oath by Makkah and Human Struggle **

 

 

**By the Sacred City (Makkah)**

 

 

لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿١﴾ وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ﴿٢﴾ وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ ﴿٣﴾ لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ ٤

 

 

*"I swear by this city [Makkah], (1) And you are free of restriction in this city, (2) And by the father and what he fathered, (3) We have certainly created man into hardship."*

 **8. Surah Al-Asr (103:1-3) - Oath by Time **

 

 

**By Time and Human Loss**

 

 

وَٱلْعَصْرِ ﴿١﴾ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ ﴿٢﴾ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ... 

 

*"By time, (1) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (2) Except those who believe, do good, and enjoin truth and patience."*

 **9. Surah Ad-Duha (93:1-3) - Oaths by Morning and Night **

 

 

**By the Morning Light**

 

 

 

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ﴿١﴾ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ﴿٢﴾ مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ

 

 

 

*"By the morning brightness, (1) And by the night when it grows still, (2) Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor does He despise [you]."*

 **10. Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:1-4) - Oaths by Winds and Angels **

 

 

**By Scattering Winds and Distributing Angels**

 

 

وَٱلذَّٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرْوًۭا ﴿١﴾ فَٱلْحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقْرًۭا ﴿٢﴾ فَٱلْجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسْرًۭا ﴿٣﴾ فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمْرًا

 

 

*"By the winds that scatter dust, (1) And those carrying loads [of rain], (2) And those speeding with ease, (3) And those distributing [Allah’s] commands."*

 **11. Surah Al-Qalam (68:1) - Oath by the Pen **

 

**By the Pen and Writing**

 

نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ ١

 

 

*"Nūn. By the pen and what they inscribe."*

 **12. Surah Ya-Sin (36:1-3) - Oath by the Qur’an **

 

 

**By the Wise Qur’an**

 

يسٓ ﴿١﴾ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ ﴿٢﴾ إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ٣

 

 

*"Ya, Seen. (1) By the wise Qur’an, (2) Indeed, you are of the messengers."*

 **13. Surah As-Saffat (37:1-3) - Oaths by Angels **

 

 

 

**By Angels in Rows**

 

 

وَٱلصَّٰٓفَّٰتِ صَفًّۭا ﴿١﴾ فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًۭا ﴿٢﴾ فَٱلتَّٰلِيَٰتِ ذِكْرًا

٣

 

 

*"By those [angels] lined up in rows, (1) And those who drive [the clouds], (2) And those who recite the message."*

 **14. Surah At-Tur (52:1-6) - Oaths by Mount, Book, and Creation **

 

 

**By the Mount and Inscribed Book**

 

 

وَٱلطُّورِ ﴿١﴾ وَكِتَٰبٍۢ مَّسْطُورٍۢ ﴿٢﴾ فِى رَقٍّۢ مَّنشُورٍۢ ﴿٣﴾ وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ ﴿٤﴾ وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ ﴿٥﴾ وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ ٦

 

 

*"By the mount, (1) And by a Book inscribed, (2) In parchment unrolled, (3) And by the frequented House, (4) And by the ceiling raised high, (5) And by the sea set ablaze."*

 **Purpose of Divine Oaths**

 

1. **Highlight Allah’s signs** in creation.

 

2. **Emphasize the truth** of the message.

 

3. **Invite reflection** on divine power.

 

4. **Draw attention** to profound truths.

 

 

Allah swears by His creation to awaken human consciousness and affirm His wisdom.
