PLACES / CITIES / REGIONS MOUNTAINS MENTIONED IN THE QURAN

 

 

 

The Quran mentions numerous places, including cities, regions, mountains, and landmarks, often in the context of historical events, prophecies, or lessons.

 

Below is a list of some significant places mentioned in the Quran, along with relevant verses, their English translations (Sahih International), and their contexts:

 **1. Makkah (Mecca)**

 

**Surah Al-Imran (3:96)**

 

 

 إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِّلْعَالَمِينَ

 

 

 *"Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Makkah—blessed and a guidance for the worlds."*

 

- **Context:**

 

Makkah is the holiest city in Islam, home to the Kaaba, the first house of worship built by Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael).

**Surah At-Tawbah (9:101)**

 سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ

 

 

 *"Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram [in Makkah] to Al-Masjid al-Aqsa [in Jerusalem], whose surroundings We have blessed."*

Jerusalem is home to Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, and the location of Prophet Muhammad’s Night Journey (Isra and Mi’raj).

 وَاتَّبَعُوا مَا تَتْلُو الشَّيَاطِينُ عَلَىٰ مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَٰكِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ كَفَرُوا يُعَلِّمُونَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ

 

 

 *"And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon... But the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut, did not teach magic without warning."*

 

- **Context:**

 

Babylon is associated with ancient magic and corruption.

 *"So when Our command came, We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of layered hard clay."*

 *"And present to them the example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines..."*
