The Honour, Mercy and Beautiful Character of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is one of the greatest examples of mercy, noble character, patience, humility, and devotion to Allah.
Allah Himself bears witness to the extraordinary character of His beloved Messenger ﷺ. He says:
🌹 A Noble Character
“ "And indeed, you are surely upon a great moral character"..”
This verse is among the most beautiful descriptions of the Prophet ﷺ. His character was not merely admired by his companions; Allah Himself praised it.
When Sayyidah ʿA’ishah رضي الله عنها was asked about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she replied:
“His character was the Qur’an.”
Musnad Aḥmad, Hadith 25302 — Authenticated as ṣaḥīḥ.
More importantly, the longer version is in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Hadith 746, where ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها says:
“Indeed, the character of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was the Qur’an.”
His life demonstrated the teachings of revelation through patience, forgiveness, compassion, courage, worship, justice, and kindness.
🌹 A Mercy to the Worlds
Allah describes the mission of His Messenger ﷺ with words that encompass the entire creation:
“And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.”
The mercy of Rasulullah ﷺ could be seen in the way he treated his companions, his family, children, the poor, the weak, and even those who opposed him.
Allah also says:
“There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; he is concerned over you, and to the believers he is kind and merciful.”
— Qur’an 9:128
The Qur’an therefore presents the Messenger ﷺ as deeply concerned for his people and especially compassionate toward the believers.
🌹 His Steadfastness During the Night Journey
Among the extraordinary events in the life of Rasulullah ﷺ was the Night Journey and Ascension.
Allah says:
“The sight did not deviate, nor did it transgress its limit.”
— Qur’an 53:17
And Allah says:
“The heart did not deny what it saw.”
— Qur’an 53:11
These verses remind us of the extraordinary steadiness of the Messenger ﷺ during an experience beyond ordinary human experience. His sight remained firm and his heart did not reject what Allah allowed him to witness.
🌹 Allah Commands the Believers to Send Salutations Upon Him
One of the clearest signs of the Prophet’s ﷺ honoured position is Allah’s command concerning ṣalāh and salām:
“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O believers, send blessings upon him and greetings of peace.”
— Qur’an 33:56
What an honour this verse contains.
Allah mentions His blessing upon the Prophet ﷺ, the blessings of the angels, and then commands the believers to send ṣalāh and salām upon him.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also taught his companions how to send blessings upon him, including the well-known Ṣalāt al-Ibrāhīmiyyah.
— Sahih al-Bukhari 6357; Sahih Muslim 406
🌹 Allah Addresses Him With Honour
The Qur’an repeatedly addresses Muhammad ﷺ with noble titles such as An-Nabī — the Prophet — and Ar-Rasūl — the Messenger.
Allah says:
“O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness, a bringer of good news and a warner.”
— Qur’an 33:45
Allah also says:
“O Messenger, convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord.”
The Qur’an does mention the Prophet ﷺ by the name Muhammad in four places:
“Muhammad is only a messenger…”
“And those who believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad…”
“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men…”
🌹The Qur’an also gives him the name Ahmad:
“…And giving good news of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.”
— Qur’an 61:6
🌹 Love for the Messenger ﷺ
True love for Rasulullah ﷺ is not merely something spoken. It should be reflected in our lives.
Allah says:
“Say, ‘If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.’”
— Qur’an 3:31
Following the Messenger ﷺ is therefore an essential expression of sincere love for Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his father, his child, and all the people.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari 15; Sahih Muslim 44
Love for him ﷺ should lead us toward his Sunnah: his prayer, his mercy, his patience, his honesty, his humility, and his beautiful dealings with creation.
🌹 His Example Is the Path
Allah says:
“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.”
This is the practical lesson for every Muslim.
If we truly love Rasulullah ﷺ, we should strive to follow his example.
When we are angry, remember his patience.
When we have power, remember his mercy.
When we are tested, remember his perseverance.
When we speak, remember his truthfulness.
When we deal with people, remember his beautiful character.
And when we remember him ﷺ, let our tongues become accustomed to sending ṣalāh and salām upon him.
🌹 A Final Reminder
The honour of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is immense, but our love should never remain only in words.
Let us learn his Sunnah.
Let us teach his character to our families.
Let us increase in ṣalāh and salām upon him.
Let us follow his guidance.
Let us strive to bring his beautiful manners into our homes and communities.
And let us ask Allah to grant us sincere love for His Messenger ﷺ and the ability to follow him faithfully.
O Allah, send Your blessings, peace, and grace upon our master Muhammad ﷺ, upon his family and upon all his Companions.
O Allah, grant us love for Your Prophet ﷺ, adherence to his Sunnah, and the ability to follow his noble example. Āmīn. 🌹
