Islam gives us beautiful words and phrases for almost every situation in our daily lives. These expressions help us remember Allah, remain grateful, seek forgiveness, stay patient, and put our trust in Him.
Here are some useful Islamic phrases with their Arabic, transliteration, English meaning, and daily usage.
1. When Thanking Someone
جَزَاكَ اللهُ خَيْرًا
Jazākallāhu khayran
Meaning: May Allah reward you with goodness.
Use it when: Someone helps you, gives you something, or does something kind for you.
For a woman: Jazākillāhu khayran
For a group: Jazākumullāhu khayran
2. When Seeking Forgiveness
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ
Astaghfirullāh
Meaning: I seek forgiveness from Allah.
Use it when: You make a mistake, say something wrong, have a bad thought, or remember a sin.
Note: Astaghfirullah does not specifically mean “I forgot.” It means “I seek Allah's forgiveness.”
3. When You See Something Beautiful or Amazing
مَا شَاءَ اللهُ
Mā shā’ Allāh
Meaning: What Allah has willed.

لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللهَ مَعَنَا
