THE PERMANENT ABODE

* 11 SIGNS OF ARROGANCE : A Reminder for the Heart *

*11 Hidden Signs of Pride and Arrogance in the Heart *

Read time: 2 mins

The Prophet ﷺ said,

*“No one who has an atom’s-weight of Pride in his heart will enter Paradise.” A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, what if a man likes his clothes and his shoes to look good?” He ﷺ said, “Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty, Pride means rejecting the truth and looking down on people” *

[Sahih Muslim]

Commentary:

The word or the name for arrogance/pride in Arabic is ‘Kibr’. This is the inner quality of pride. The name of the outward quality is ‘Takabbur’ which means arrogance.

Arrogance is a blameworthy characteristic which is the feature of Iblees and his followers in this world, those on whose hearts Allah Ta'ala has placed a seal.

🛑 11 Signs of a Person Having Pride/Arrogance:

▪ He doesn’t like others to have what he has

▪ He cannot avoid anger

▪ He cannot avoid being jealous of others

▪He doesn’t accept advice from others

▪He doesn’t want to listen or accept advice

from a learned person or even attend lessons

▪ When advising people, he always puts them down

▪ When speaking he will say good remarks about himself

▪ When he speaks, he speaks with pride to let people know he has knowledge

▪He deals with people in bad way

▪ He walks in bad way

▪ He has looks down at people because he is wealthier, or has a better appearance.

The cure for arrogance involves Knowledge and Action which involves the following remedies:

Firstly, you should know and recognise your Lord and know and recognise your own self as you should be recognised, and that you are not worthy of greatness and that true greatness and pride are only for Allah Ta'ala

Secondly, you should think of yourself as being just like other people and realize that they are like you; they were born from a mother and a father just as you were, and that Taqwa (piety, fear of Allah) is the true criterion of superiority.

*Allah Ta'ala says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqoon (the pious)”

[Al-Hujuraat, 49:13]. *

And finally, know and realize that on the Day of Resurrection the person with pride will be gathered in a small form like an ant which will be trampled underfoot as *The Prophet ﷺ said:

Narrator: ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ

“On the Day of Resurrection, the arrogant will be gathered like ants in the form of men. Humiliation will overwhelm them from all sides. They will be driven to a prison in Hell called Bawlas, with the hottest fire rising over them, and they will be given to drink of the juice of the inhabitants of Hell, which is teenat al-khabaal*”

[Narrated by al-Tirmidhi]

Arrogant people are hated by other people just as they are hated by Allah Ta'ala; people love humble, tolerant and gentle people, and they hate those who are harsh and cruel to people.

And Allah knows best!

“*Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like one who did it.”*

Mujaahid relates that he was travelling with Abdullaah bin Umar R.A. when they happened to pass a desolate area

🌷 _Abdullaah bin Umar said to him, "Say; O desolate land! What has happened to those who resided on you?"_

_Mujaahid said, "O desolate land! What has happened to those who resided on you?"_

_*Abdullah bin Umar said, "They might all have passed on but their actions still remain."*_

📚 Reference

This report is attributed to Mujāhid رحمه الله and is recorded in Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ wa-Ṭabaqāt al-Aṣfiyāʾ by Abū Nuʿaym al-Aṣfahānī. The wording is also reproduced in later biographical collections.

____

In another narration, 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رض) used to go out of the city into some wilderness with the express purpose of training and teaching his heart.

_When he reached there, he would ask the spot of land_

_*"Where are those who lived here?"*_

After that he would answer his own question by saying:

_*"Everything must perish save the presence of His being."   (Ibn Kathir) *_

▪ This was how he summoned and preserved the remembrance of Afterlife in his heart.

_ [Excerpt from Ma'ariful Qur'an - Surah 3 - Aal-i-Imraan - Ayah 191] _

AHMADTRINI

* LOWER YOUR GAZE ,RAISE YOUR REWARD *

*Lowering our gazes from Haraam draws multiple rewards*

*✦Ŕāsűlűllâh ﷺ✦* guaranteed Jannah on six deeds, over and above the fulfilment of the Faraa’idh *(obligatory duties) *

One of them is lowering the gaze.

*✦Ŕāsűlűllâh ﷺ✦* said: “Guarantee me six things, I will guarantee Jannah for you:

*1.) * Always speak the truth,

*2.) * Fulfil your promises,

*3.) * Honour/fulfil what you are entrusted with,

*4.) * Protect your private parts,

*5.) * Lower your gaze and

*6.) * Hold back your hands *(from stealing and harming others).” *

*📚 Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān, 271; Al-Mustadrak of al-Ḥākim, 4/399 *

It is mentioned in a Hadīth that a person who lowers his gaze will be protected from Jahannum.

*✦Ŕāsűlűllâh ﷺ✦* said: *

*Types of eyes (people) will not see Jahannam: *

*1.) * The eye that guarded in the path of Allah,

*2.) * The eye that cried out of the fear of Allah, and

*3.) * The eye that abstained from looking at those things which Allah has made impermissible to look at.”

*(Al Mu’jamul Kabir / Majma’uz Zawaid) *

ْ

A little exercise the eye – by lowering the gaze or averting the gaze from Haraam – and one enjoys the benefits and rewards of both worlds!

*THE HUMAN SOUL : Sin, Repentance, and Purificationl*

*The Burden of Sin and the Beauty of Repentance*

_It is true that the nafs by its very nature is inclined towards freedom. However, religion restricts this ‘freedom’ in order to discipline the nafs._

■ Without such restriction, we could lose all good values and the nafs might lose control and act in a completely irresponsible manner.

_The nafs is constantly being tempted since what is alluring is always attractive. _

■ A person may enjoy listening to and taking part in gossips, deriving a vicarious pleasure in it because s/he feels s/he is better than the person whose weaknesses are being exposed.

■ Or the nafs may find committing adultery an enjoyable way of satisfying its desires.

_*But if we really think, we’ll find that this short-lived ‘freedom’ is not worth the trouble, because we will have to bear the consequences of our misdeeds for a long time.*_

■ If we think about all the sinful pleasures we might have enjoyed 10 years ago, and then ask whether we’re left with any of those pleasures now, what would be the answer?

Nothing!

His pleasures of sin have vanished, yet the punishment remains. *

_But think of fasting in Ramadhan 10 years ago. What effects are we feeling now from the suffering of thirst? _

What is left of that hunger pangs 10 years ago?

*The pain and suffering undergone for the sake of performing duties lillah have disappeared, but the reward stays with us. *

_You have been endowed by Allah SWT the power of reasoning and the will to choose which way is best. _

*So, will you not utilize them before it’s too late? *

AFTER HARDSHIP COMES EASE : Keep Trusting Allah

➖➖➖

After Hardship Comes Ease: Keep Trusting Allah ﷻ

➖➖➖

Allāh ﷻ says in the Qur'an:

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,

[2:155]

This dunya is not meant to be a paradise. We shall surely be tested and trialed with many trials and tribulations.

We should not be stressed and depressed when such tests occur.

Don't grieve over the past, for what has been taken will never return! Don't worry over the future, for what has been ordained cannot be changed!

_

In a Hadith From Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه who narrated that: “The Prophet ﷺ entered into the Masjid one day and found therein a man among the Ansar by the name Abu Umamah.

He ﷺ asked him: ‘O Abu Umamah, why do I see you sitting down in the Masjid when it is not prayer time?’.

He رضي الله عنه replied 'O prophet of Allah, I have been inflicted with anxieties and debts have overcome me.

Then the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Shall I not teach you a statement, when you say it, Allāh will relieve you of your anxieties and settle for you your debts?’,

He رضي الله عنه said: ‘O yes the prophet of Allah’.

He ﷺ said "say:

O Allah , I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and being overpowered by men’.

Abu Umamah رضي الله عنه said that 'I did all this recommendation of the Prophet ﷺ and Allāh eased me of my anxieties and burden of debt.'”

[Sunan Abu Dawud 1555]

_

In another narration, the same dua is mentioned with variation in the wordings.

Anas bin Mallik رضي الله عنه narrates, saying: “I used to often hear the Prophet (ﷺ) supplicating with these words:

‏

‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from sadness, grief, helplessness, laziness, being stingy, overwhelming debt, and the overpowering of men

Allāhumma innī aūdhu bika minal-hammi wal-ḥazani wal-ajzi wal-kasali wal-bukhli wa ḍalaid-dain wa ghalabatir-rijāl

[Jamiat-Tirmidhi 3484. In-book: Book 48, Hadith 115, *Grade: Sahih*]

_

Do not fall short in your trust in Allāh ﷻ, Have certainty!

_

Allah ﷻ wants your trust in Him. Allah ﷻ wants your sabr with His Qadr!

_

As Allāh ﷻ says

Or do you think that you would enter Jannah while such [trial] has not come to you as came to those who came before you?

[2:214]

May Allāh ﷻ Grant us a deeper understanding and protect us from negative feelings and thoughts.
