SUNNAH FOODS AND IT'S COMBINATION

 

 

Sunnah foods and it’s combination

 

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had specific **eating habits, etiquettes, and food combinations** that are part of his Sunnah. Here’s how he consumed and combined the **Sunnah foods**:

### **1. Dates (التمر)**

 

- **How he ate them:**

 

- The Prophet (ﷺ) often ate **odd numbers (3, 5, 7)** of dates, especially in the morning.

 

- He would **break his fast with fresh or dried dates**; if unavailable, he used water. *

 

(Sunan Abu Dawood)*

 

- He sometimes **combined dates with butter or cucumber** for a balanced meal. *(Bukhari)*

 

 

- **Hadith:**

 

> *"Whoever eats seven 'Ajwa dates in the morning will not be harmed by poison or magic that day."*

 

(Bukhari)

### **2. Honey (العسل)**

 

- **How he consumed it:**

 

- He drank **honey mixed with water** (a natural energy drink).

 

- Used it as a **medicine** for sore throat, digestion, and general healing.

 

- Sometimes took it **on an empty stomach** for health benefits.

 

- **Hadith:**

 

> *"Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Quran."* (Ibn Majah)

### **3. Milk (اللبن)**

 

- **How he drank it:**

 

- The Prophet (ﷺ) **drank fresh milk** and praised it as a complete food.

 

- He sometimes **ate bread dipped in milk** (a simple, nutritious meal).

 

- He advised against **overeating** and would say:

 

> *"No food or drink satisfies like milk."* (Tirmidhi)

### **4. Barley (الشعير)**

 

- **How he ate it:**

 

- **Barley bread (خبز الشعير)** was a staple in his diet.

 

- He ate **barley soup (تلبينة)** especially during illness or grief. *(Bukhari)*

 

- Aisha (RA) said:

 

> *"When a family member died, the women would gather and cook Talbina, then serve it to the grieving family."*

### **5. Olive Oil (زيت الزيتون)**

 

- **How he used it:**

 

- **Eaten with bread**: The Prophet (ﷺ) dipped bread in olive oil.

 

- **Applied topically**: Used for hair, skin, and wounds.

 

- **Mixed with vinegar**: A Sunnah salad dressing.

 

 

- **Hadith:**

 

> *"Eat olive oil and apply it, for it is from a blessed tree."* (Tirmidhi)

### **6. Black Seed (الحبة السوداء)**

 

- **How he consumed it:**

 

- **Ground with honey**: Taken as a remedy for illnesses.

 

- **Mixed in warm water**: For digestion and immunity.

 

 

- **Hadith:**

 

> *"This black seed is a cure for every disease except death."* (Bukhari)

### **7. Vinegar (الخل)**

 

- **How he ate it:**

 

- The Prophet (ﷺ) loved vinegar as a **condiment with bread**.

 

- He said:

 

> *"What a good condiment vinegar is."* (Muslim)

### **8. Pumpkin (القرع)**

 

- **How he ate it:**

 

- He enjoyed **pumpkin stew** and asked for it when available.

 

- Anas (RA) reported:

 

> *"I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) eating pumpkin, and since then I have loved it."* (Bukhari)

### **9. Water (الماء)**

 

- **How he drank it:**

 

- **Sitting down** (never standing unless necessary). *(Muslim)*

 

- **Three breaths**: He would pause while drinking, saying *"Bismillah"* before and *"Alhamdulillah"* after.

 

- **Cool water**: He preferred it over extremely cold water.

 

- **Hadith:**

 

> *"Do not drink in one gulp like a camel, but in two or three [breaths]."* (Tirmidhi)

### **Prophet’s (ﷺ) Eating Etiquettes**

 

1. **Washing hands** before and after eating.

 

2. **Eating with the right hand** and saying *"Bismillah."*

 

3. **Eating from the side of the plate** (not the middle). *(Abu Dawood)*

 

4. **Licking fingers** after eating to not waste blessings. *(Muslim)*

 

5. **Stopping before feeling completely full**.
> *"The son of Adam fills no vessel worse than his stomach..."* (Tirmidhi)
