VISITING THE SICK : A Meaningful Act of Compassion

Bringing Comfort: The Virtues and Etiquette of Visiting the Sick

Say: Laa Ba’sa Ṭahoorun insha Allah

Don't worry, if Allah wills, it will be expiation (for your sins).

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) entered upon sick man to pay him a visit, and said to him, Laa Ba’sa Tahoorun inshaAllah “(Don't worry, Allah willing, (your sickness will be) an expiation for your sins)."

Sahih al-Bukhari 5662

2) Dua For the Sick Person

As’alullaah Al ‛Azeema Rabbal Arshil ‛Azeemi An Yashfeek (recite 7 times)

I ask Allah the Supreme, Lord of the Magnificent Throne to cure you.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone visits a sick whose time (of death) has not come, and says with him seven times: As’alullaah-Al-‛Azeema Rabbal-‛Arshil-‛Azeemi An Yashfeek (I ask Allah, the Mighty, the Lord of the mighty Throne, to cure you, Allah will cure him from that disease).

(Sunan Abi Dawud 3106)

3) Reward of Visiting the Sick

Thauban, the freed slave of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said:

He who visits the sick continues to remain in the fruit garden of Paradise until he returns.

Khurfat al-Jannah (خُرْفَةِ الْجَنَّةِ) refers to a fruit garden of Paradise. Another narration explains that it means its fruits.

(Sahih Muslim 2568a)

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying,

"When a Muslim visits a sick Muslim at dawn, seventy thousand angels keep on praying for him till dusk. If he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels keep on praying for him till the morning; and he will have (his share of) reaped fruits in Jannah."

(At- Tirmidhi 969)

*WHEN ADDAS WAS LEFT SPEECHLESS *

*A Surprise That Changed Addas Forever*

Addas did as they had instructed. As the Prophet ﷺ reached for the grapes, he said, "In the name of Allah."

Addas looked closely at his face and remarked, "These are not words the people of this land usually say."

The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What country are you from? And what is your religion?"

Addas replied, "I am a Christian, from the people of Nineveh."

The Prophet ﷺ said, "From the city of the righteous man Jonah (Yunus), the son of Matta."

Addas asked, "How do you know Jonah, the son of Matta?"

The Prophet ﷺ replied, "He is my brother. He was a Prophet, and I am a Prophet."

Then Addas bent down and kissed the Prophet's head, hands, and feet.
